Shelly Upright My name is Shelly Upright. I am a counselor at Freedom & Healing in Christ. The Lord initially brought me here to heal my broken heart and to bind up my wounds, which had been very deep. I came from a family of seven. My parents were both alcoholics and my grandfather was a sexual abuser. Because the Lord said that He would not put upon us more than we could bare He allowed my protection to come from DID — Dissociative Identity Disorder (MPD). I had suppressed memories. My life was tormented by fear, isolation and rejection. I rejected others and myself and lived with guilt and condemnation. I didn’t know how to get out of this vicious cycle that the evil one had me trapped in. The word of God says that my people perish from lack of knowledge and my people perish from lack of vision. I had no vision for my life and felt a lack of purpose for living. I lived day by day focused on basic survival. When I began counseling with Gary Runkle-Edens it was the beginning of my freedom and healing in Christ. When I discovered my DID it was shocking but after the shock it was the piece of the puzzle that was missing from my life. I always knew something was wrong but I didn’t know what. I felt like I had my arm out and my elbow locked and no one came into that intimate place of my life. I was afraid to let people get close Ñ afraid of what they might see. The Lord says Love your neighbor as yourself. I never knew how to love myself until I began receiving ministry. The Lord taught me how to love. He took all the masks off that I had placed before me, masks of pride, rebellion, guilt, shame, and fear and began to look inside. I am still looking inside, unraveling the web of pain that Satan has placed in my life. I have come a long way. During our process of healing we integrated my inner family. This changed my life forever. It has brought stability and a confidence to my life and confidence in the Lord’s healing power. I feel like I have a destiny and a purpose in my life which is to help others find their freedom and healing in Christ. In the last 3 years God has continually brought people into my life who needed His healing in the area of DID. God has blessed me to be able to help these people and used me in the process of integration for a number of them. I joined the staff of Freedom & Healing in Christ in 2003 where I have the privilege of serving the Lord in this exciting ministry of setting captives free. Shelly specializes in helping fragmented, broken people discover deep healing and whole, integrated lives.
