Psychology & Psychiatric Medicines
Freedom & Healing in Christ, Inc. is a Christian counseling ministry that utilizes the strengths of psychology blended with the freedom of Pastoral counseling and ministry to serve our clients and lead them to freedom and deep emotional healing. Our staff is uniquely gifted by God as instruments of healing and wise godly counsel. Four of our six staff are ordained or licensed pastors. Because our healing model does not fit under the laws of California’s State Board of Behavioral Science, we do not seek licensing by them.
Because of who we are, some have asked about our views of psychology and psychiatric medicines. Following is an overview of our position on this subject:
Freedom & Healing in Christ counselors believe that psychology contains truth about humanity. We utilize psychological insight when it is helpful to do so. We can learn a lot about the human heart, soul and brain from psychology and psychiatry. We seek to know and undertand as much as possible in how it can help our clients.
However our experience with psychology tells us that it is rather quick to diagnose and describe but slow to bring any healing or resolution to the things it understands. Freedom & Healing in Christ also has concerns over the growing number of people in our country and beyond who are taking psychological medicines. We recognize that there are times when such medicines are quite useful and even necessary. Our concern is that so many people are becoming increasingly dependent on drugs and not discovering deep healing, substantial life changes and life success through maturity and growth.
Because we do recognize people’s needs to find help through psychiatric medicines we do make referrals to Christian psychiatrists.
